Milciades collects garbage together with Ana and their children in Asunción. Tired of the poverty they live in, they decide to move to Curuguaty to live and work in a peasant community. There, despite several threats of eviction, he develops a mystical and loving bond with the land. This connection transports Milciades to the Paraguayan War (1870), in which, together with an exhausted army, they head to the Battle of Cerro Corá, the final battle of the war. Empowered by the spirits of the past, and with the help of the ghostly army, Milciades and his companions manage to win the eviction and start a new life.
